“Redwood, Sino-US Friendship Mid-autumn Festival Concert”, co-organized by US-China Foundation (USCF) and other institutions, held at world-famous Lincoln Center in NYC on October 4, was a great success.

This concert was entitled historic “Red wood”. In 1972, then US President Nixon visited China and brought Chinese people 4 red woods.

Diana Corto, president of American Opera Company, acted as artistic and marketing supervisor of the concert, Zhao Xiaoou, conductor from China, and Yao Xueyan, well-known Chinese conductor in NYC directed the orchestra separately; other performers including well-known Chinese Erhu player Ma Xiaohui, soprano Julia Zhu, mezzo-soprano Zhang Wen, and American tenor Gerard Powers and American soprano Anna Vicker performed at this concert.

The concert perfectly combined Chinese classical songs such as “Jasmine”, and “The Story of spring”; Erhu solo “Sprit of Erhu” and “The Shepherdess on the Tianshan Mountains ”, with popular western opera pieces such as “Carmen”, “ La Traviata ” and “Nessun dorma”, etc. The beautiful songs received rapturous applause from the audience.

An audience, Tom Fisher came onto the stage after the performance, he enthusiastically said to Erhu player Ma Xiaohui, “the Chinese music played on your erhu is fantastic and fascinates me very much. I hope we can enjoy more performances given by Chinese performers here to promote cultural exchange between the two nations.”

USCF founded in the US in 1992, is a non-governmental organization specializing in exchange programs between China and the US .
